  • Wheels/Tires
    • All vehicles must have metal tire valve stems and caps on all tubeless tires. TPMS valves accepted.
    • No bias ply drag tires or slicks unless pre-approval from LSNZ, as typically slicks have no speed rating and are designed for going around corners and hard braking. These tires are banned at overseas LS events.
    • Tires rated for the speed intended. Example: Z. for 240kph, W. for 270kph, Y. for 300kph. (Y) for +300kph. If in doubt, ask your tire supplier. Tread depth in excess of +3mm

All tires must be (DOT) approved tyres and be less than 10 years old. Classic or Vintage tires require preapproval before the event. Approved Landspeed tires accepted. Ensure they are balanced.

Recommendations:

  • Highly recommended on motorbikes, front wheel bearings and steering head bearings checked and serviced or replaced with new. OME often do not install sealed bearings on both sides, so they can rust inside.
  • Landspeed racing, tires are inflated to the recommended tire pressure of 40 psi cold. Tire warmers are not used. Ensure your tire temperatures are checked by a marshal at the end of each LS run and should not exceed 60c.
  • Highly recommend filling your tires with nitrogen; they run cooler and drier.
  • All tires and wheels should be balanced.
  • This event is not on salt flats; it is on a sealed public road, it is extremely level, but there are some bumps, so ensure you have appropriate suspension settings. Example “Track mode’ changed to “Sport mode’
  • Recommend replacing glycol antifreeze in your cooling system with VIP. Stay-frosty, Liquid perform Icewater”, Repco “Pentrite, BelRay Motochill, Motul Mocool, etc. The engine will run cooler, and no danger to the environment if it leaks.
  • It is not a requirement to wire sump plugs/fill plugs and callipers, etc, as for circuit racing, but ensure all bolts are torqued to factory settings and possibly use of “Blue” Loctite on threads.
  • Remove wheel hub caps or secure with a cable tie.
  • Ensure wheel nuts are tight!
  • You do not need a fire extinguisher in your car, but highly recommended, and if you do, bolt it to seat mounts or the floor, no cable ties.
  • Car roll cages are not required unless doing over 205mph/328kph.
  • No loose tools, drink bottles, or laptops in passenger seats or on the floor.
  • Put water bottles in a closed glove box.
  • Riders/Drivers over 70 years of age are highly recommended to have a full medical check, including a cognitive processing test.
  • Motorcyclists are highly recommended to use a chest protector.
  • Highly recommend that any on-board cameras have a safety wire secured separately, especially on motorbikes.
  • Ensure any under belly wind/skirting panels be checked not cracked or loose, cable tie or put in new screws the high-speed wind will tear them off.
